APEX Design, Inc., a family business, was founded for the purpose of creating a machine shop manufacturing cell with leading technology to support the aerospace, defense, communications, electronics and medical markets.

Acquisition of the Saragraff Company, Wilkinsburg, PA. Founded by Mr. William J. Uptegraff, the company supplied precision tool and die sets to multiple customers. Mr. Uptegraff was an accomplished machinist from Westinghouse Corporation. APEX Design, Inc. was privileged to acquire his machine shop and personal tools.

Accepted as a member in the Electro-Optics Alliance, an organization formed by the Electro-Optics Center to advance the commercial viability of Navy/DoD critical electro-optics manufacturing technology and to promote technology transfer. The alliance is managed by ARL Penn State under an Office of Naval Research (ONR) ManTech initiative.

Acquisition of 2002 Hardinge Conquest ST220B, 6-axis Swiss type CNC lathe equipment, LNS Express Magazine bar feeder and PartMaker Swiss CAM software.

Expansion of metrology lab with RAM Optical Vision Measuring System. Initiated production program for aerospace components under direct military contract.

Established as an OEM supplier to a major laser photonics company serving the telecommunications, oil field and military C4ISR markets.

Purchase of additional Hardinge GT27SP Super Precision machining center.
Acquisition of a 23,000 sq. ft. manufacturing and office facility ideal for LEAN cell production layout.

Selected as an OEM supplier of precision components to the DoD’s leading night vision scope systems.
